Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing system that can be used to
treat a wide variety of conditions.
This healing system works with the energy of the body, referred to as
chi. Imbalances in chi in the body can manifest as organ dysfunction and can
often be detected before diagnostic tests show any changes.
The energy travels through the body along meridians which can then be
accessed with pressure or with the use of needles.
Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat musculoskeletal conditions
although it can be used to treat many other problems. Sometimes it is used
in conjunction with Chinese herbs. The limiting factor for an acupuncture
treatment may be the animal but many animals love the endorphin release that
they get when the needles go in.
Acupressure can also be a useful diagnostic and treatment tool. Sensitive
points along the back can detect early organ imbalance and animal caretakers
can be shown points to massage on a daily basis to assist the body in
strengthening or rebalancing an organ.

Lucas
is a 15 year old Husky, approaching his 16th birthday, who has
been getting progressively weaker in his back end. In September
Lucas had a fall on the way to the park and his caretakers thought
that Lucas would not be seeing the park again. Lucas has been
getting acupuncture, at first weekly and now sometimes only
monthly sessions, plus an occasional homeopathic treatment for
his anxiety, and he is continuing to age gracefully. Although
Lucas was always very suspicious and nervous of vets, he has
come to enjoy his acupuncture treatments and after a warm greeting
at the door, lies down for his needles and then gets up feeling
better already! |
